New poll: Likud 32 - Kadima Achora 9

A new poll taken by the Smith Institute for YNet indicates that if elections were held today, the Likud would win 32 seats (as compared with its current 12) and Kadima Achora would drop to 9 seats from its current 29. I guess you can't fool all of the people all of the time.

In the race for Prime Minister (which is irrelevant under the current system in which the leader of the largest party is invited to form the government), Likud leader Binyamin Netanyahu has the support of 34%, with foreign minister Tzipi Feigele Livni tied with Labor MK Ami Ayalon in second place with 16%. Prime Minister Ehud K. Olmert is a distant fifth with 3%.

The survey, which was carried out Monday evening, questioned 500 adults over the age of 18 and had a 4.5 percent error margin.

The Knesset votes split as follows:

Likud: 32 mandates

Israel Our Home: 10

Kadima: 9

Labor: 9

Shas: 8

National Union-NRP: 6

United Torah Judaism: 5

Meretz: 4

Pensioners: 3

Undecided: 24

Total: 120

There's 56. We could use a few more right-wingers.

And how the hell did Olmert score as high as 3% in this survey? Did YNet poll his entire extended family?

Michael,

More likely they polled all the people Olmert has paid off and all the people who have bribed him.

Carl:

How does the Israeli government function, with a PM whose approval rating is effectively 3%?

Am I missing something? How can this even exist???

Soccer Dad,

I would assume that the undecided's will be divided between left and right in roughly the same proportion as the decided's.

Red Tulip,

The government functions because there is no personal accountability and every time there is a critical vote, they call for 'coalition discipline' by turning it into a vote of no confidence. And the 78 MK's in the government who don't want to lose their jobs vote with the government.
